The idea of Progress for society

Let’s have a brief introduction about progress, and I would start with the concept that “progress requires change but change does not mean progress” (H.L. Mencken). Human tends to satisfy needs with the invention (E.g., mastering Fire, Wheal, electricity, etc.) for making life easier because naturally ready for this, indeed to accomplish these results they have: intelligence, awareness, and strength for example. We live in a world that constantly changes due to natural forces, and we live in complex communities, which have different issues and requests (growing population, famine, virus infections, etc.) and the only way to accomplish the survival instinct is to improve the quality of life. Probably if the society did not progress it would have declined (e.g., deaths for diseases, cold, tsunami, etc.) because of the lack of cure or preventions.

In Greek civilization, Plato believed that progress is a continuous process and it has the scope to improve the human condition from a state of nature to higher and higher levels of culture, economic organization and political structure (towards an ideal state). Progress is related to the rising complexity of society and the necessity to enlarge knowledge. For Plato progress must be governed properly because it implies change and conflict.
